Oh wow so in 2010 my car insurance will get cheaper. I been looking for car insurance not really driving much right now. But now from what your telling me I should wait to 1-10-2010. Because than I will be 25. I think it has something to do with the rental company's liability insurance. Under 25 is statistically more like to have an accident. I know my insurance went way down this year (I turned 25). It used to be that you couldn't ever rent under 25 but if you shop around, some companies will let you but you have to pay a small fortune for the privilege.
Statistically, drivers under the age of 25 are more accident prone - that's why your car insurance costs more than someone OVER the age of 25.
I used to own rental property in Florida, and the city required short term renters (vacationers) to be 25 or older for a similar reason - renters under 25 were more more to drink alcohol, get out of hand, and destroy property.
It's not the car rentals fault, blame the insurance companies. The cut off line for insurance companies is at 25. The insurance rate literally doubles or triples to the car rental company if they rent cars to those under 25. It's just another way for insurance companies to avoid paying out claims so their fat cats get fatter. You ask what's logical about this well statistically the under 25 age groups has a much higher accident rate. (insurance companies study this much more than even the government!!!)
I am not sure what the reason is, but the minimum age of 25 has been the 'rule' for quite a long time already.
And the rental companies want you to have a credit card as well.
If you plan on shopping around for car insurance, make sure you include...
