Features and benefits typically found in caravan and camping ...

One of the joys of having your own caravan or folding camper is that you are able to take off on holiday or enjoy a weekend break whenever you want. While there are many great sites to visit in the UK, you may wish to venture further and take in sites around Europe. If you intend to travel outside of the UK and into Europe then ensure you have adequate European cover in your policy.

Typically, the provider usually offers some European cover in your touring caravan or campervan insurance; however, the amount of day’s coverage you get may differ. Providers typically state that you are protected in Europe for so many days out of the year and with some providers, you may get more days protection than with others for the same cost.

The insurance typically includes a stay in alternative accommodation if your campervan or caravan had to be repaired due to damage caused by an insured risk. Typically, you are given up to so much per day for a set period of time towards the costs.

New for old replacements If you have a relatively new campervan or caravan, you may wish to check that you are given brand new replacement of your contents in the event they are destroyed, damaged, or stolen. New for old may also apply to your caravan or campervan if it is destroyed or stolen and it is under a certain age and meet other criteria.

Protection for your awnings Awnings may cost a great deal to replace if you have to pay for the costs yourself. However these are typically protected in the average caravan and camping insurance. You may wish to check what they are actually protected for in the policy. The insurance provider may or may not payout if your awning is damaged or destroyed during a storm. There is also typically a limit as to how much the provider pays out towards replacing a damaged awning, so you may wish to check this also.

Camper Van Insurance?

I have longed to try camper vaning, so I have just bought a camper van but I have a lot to learn. So I am hoping some body wil advise me, First of all with the Insurance I presume it is best to get fully Comp because the interior in some cases is worth more than the van, and is it best to insure it all year round even when you are not useing it like winter time. Or can you get alternative Insurence. The next thing is do you take down all the curtains and soft furnshing, Then is it advisable to cover the van in winter proveding you can get inside it to keep the batteries charged up.

In Ireland Campers are definable by law as recreational vehicles and have a very low road-tax. Mine is totally and legally insured for €350 euros a year which is maybe £200?

Most Camper owners drive their vehicles through the year, many as their main vehicle. The heat generated by regular use keeps the interior fresh batteries charged and the whole vehicle in good order.

If you treat a Camper like a caravan it will either break you financially or kill you literally.
